Jeffe came back this morning from his first trip to Japan. So for lunch, we went to go eat sushi. I was first introduced to Sushi Go 55, 333 S. Alameda Street, 3rd Floor, LA CA 213-687-0777, by artists Qatheryn Brehm and Nancy Uyemura. Their sushi is fresh and prepared with an old school vibe. The service is very nice and I always leave very full from there.
My friend Kumiko works at Hamada-Ya Bakery in the Mitsuwa Market, 21515 Western Avenue Torrance CA 90501 310-787-1778. It's such a great crew-feel over there. Everyone working their tails off for some of the best tasting and hearty breads and danishes around. Sorry no pix this time.
In the chaos of the Mitsuwa Food Court, 21515 Western Ave, Torrance CA 90501 310-787-1778, on a Sunday afternoon, we couldn't even find a place to sit. We waited in line for pasta. Pasta, pasta, pasta, that's what Tomato does. My Chicken Parmesan was thin, tender and tsty. The salad was fresh and crispy and the bread was rich and yummy. So what's not to like? My mom wasn't happy with her rice omelete or as they say in Japanese "OM-Risu". It's all good.
Wien, 3035 W. Olympic Bl. LA CA 90006, 213-427-0404, is an elegant bakery in the heart of K-Town and I pass it every morning on my way to work. Today, I decided to drop by. Look what I got! A pea-danish, ham-cheese and a cream cookie. Oh Yeah!!!
Nothing like homemade sweets. I was over Tom and Pauline's this weekend and P was expermenting in the kitchen. This almond tart was awesome. How luxurious to visit friends in time for some sweet goodies. I am so lucky.

Went to my first hockey game last night at Staple Center. It was the LA Kings VS the St. Louis Blues. I think the score was Kings 5 and the Blues 1. I have to say, it was very exciting and a lot more engaging than I thought it would be.
We didn't have time to go out for dinner between work and the game so we reluctantly bought food at the concession stand. Guess what, it wasn't half bad. I had a hot chocolate, chili fries, and a Cesar wrap. We also had a chocolate chip sundae with Butter Fingers ice cream.
I forgot to take a pix of it but here's the aftermath.

YAY!!!! Baseball Steak!!!!
I finally made it back to the historic HMS Bounty, 3357 Wilshire Blvd LA CA 90010-11803, 213-385-7275. I love the Baseball Steak here with mashpotato, YUMMMM!!!
It sits across the street from the former Ambassador Hotel where I went to my first Bar Mitzvah party back in the 70's. Before I was born, my mom worked at the Security Pacific Bank next door and the staff used to go to the Coconut Grove and see famous people sing. She had a day off when Robert Kennedy was shot but has solemn descriptions of what it was like to go to work the next day.
HMS Bounty is awesome. I don't go often because the food is heavy but I am drawn to it. Jeffe met Meg White there once. How magical is that?
The only odd thing about it is the bathroom is in the connected hotel hallway. The journey feels like a Stephen King novel, the way they go on forever, twisting and turning.
However, that Baseball Steak, is delicious. Megan Rebecca had the Fish N Chips which seemed a little overly bready to me.

Highly touted as the best cupcakes ever by artist Megan DeArmond, Jeffrey James Mohr and I foujnd ourselves in Eagle Rock today to taste the joy. Auntie Em's Kitchen is located at 4616 Eagle Rock Blvd., LA CA 90041, www.auntiemskitchen.com, 323-255-0800. The moment you walk up to the place, there's a great welcoming home-style decor that really feels great. We sat down at one of the many unpretentious tables and were greated with warm smiles. order the lemonade, it's rassberry awesome. There's seating outside in the front, outside in the back and in the two rooms inside. Their menu is made up of seasonal ingredients purchased at local farmer markets. I ordered the chicken stew special which tasted like my Mom's stew. Wow! and I also had a beet salad, delicious. Jeffe had a Pretzel bread sandwhich. I think their were slices of honey ham and dijon mustard, just to name the main ingredients. On his sides were fresh pickles that were crynchy and delicious.
Lastly, the cupcakes. Yes Megan, they may very well be the best.

It appears today is Vietnamese New Years so the Pho cafe we planned on going to was closed. We noticed a Thai food place next door and walked in. WOW, very nice interior. It was a unapologetic mix of modern and ancient rustic. I ordered the Chicken Sate with peanut sauce, Curry Dumplings with shrimp and scallops, Tom Yum (sweet and sour soup) and a jasmine tea.
It was very hearty and filling. The spices and herbs were a little less pronounced than other Thai food places I'd been to in the past but I liked the food overall. None of the food was as enjoyable as the interior design.
