Who doesn't deserve a great salad once in a while?

Giant Robot. GIANT ROBOT. What an amazing company. Something that started out as a zine blossoming into the local American Dream. Sweet.

On Sawtelle Blvd. just north of Olympic, they have three retail shops. GR, GR2 and a cafe gr/eats, 2050 Sawtelle Blvd, 310-478-3242, gr-eats.com

The gr/eats menu is filled with broiled fish, Mayan Chicken, Curry shrimp, Tofu "Meatballs", Paella and sandwiches. The average price for a dish is around $8.00. They also have a green tea drink and an almond jello I enjoy but back to the salad.

My favorite is the mushroom salad which is a filling portion of greens and four types of sauteed shrooms; oyster shrooms, straw shrooms, shitake shrooms and brown shrooms. SHROOMs Darake! The house dressing, a soy sauce base, brings out the flavor of each type of shroom and it's perfect for that Saturday afternoon lunch. The great thing about having a salad for lunch you feel like you did the right thing, got your veggies in, healthy and so you can reward yourself with dessert.



Last Saturday, they had a special, Blueberry cupcake. It was very sweet but the green tea drink (it comes with that liquid sugar they serve so much in Japan but I don't use it) compliments it well.

The chicken salad is also very good. Lots of grilled chicken and it comes in a mini mountain.
